Survey of English Literature from the Romantic Period to the Present<\/em> was a really fantastic class. Through it I developed a deep appreciation for poetry, which was a bit of a surprise. The curriculum was structured in such a way that the history of the British Empire was told through the writings of some of its most brilliant and creative minds from the late 18th to the early 20th centuries.\u00a0 Perhaps the greatest thing about it was that we weren’t just covering higher level English material, but somehow the better part of a History class was cleverly slipped in without increasing the workload.<\/p>\n I had to regress and take\u00a0Literature and Composition<\/em> after this, the general education English course where students get their first real taste of poetry, and because I had already completed this class it was doomed to be an incredibly laborious experience. All of the overlapping concepts and ideas were presented with grandness and majesty here, while in Literature and Composition<\/em> they were watered down for a much broader and less refined audience.
