Xenocide Birthday Bash - quake.slipgate.net port 26000 (NetQuake)

Important Update!! Yes, hopefully this will be the start of many more 'Important Updates' to come. Below is what I snagged directly from the Captured.com ....

We have rounded up our list of servers for playing. Due to compatibility issues with different versions of client software and server code, we have decided to stick with using CTF 4.2. The servers will be running CTFx maps and perhaps some ExMx maps. Due to a high demand we have also set up a few NetQuake servers for those of you who like lag. ;) I would like to thank EVERYONE who has offered a server for this event, your enthusiasm has not gone unnoticed! For settings the servers will be generally the same:

  • If you wish to filter through GameSpy, the server names will say "CTF Anniversary...." in them.
  • Weapons stay will be on
  • No team damage will be on
  • Spectators will be allowed on the servers
  • Spectator/Player limits will be at discretion of the server admin.

The following servers will be running all weekend long, if something goes wrong w/ the server, the Admin's e-mail addresses have been included.

QuakeWorld

NetQuake

For those of you who aren't aware of what all of this is, please allow me to elaborate. Clan Xenocide, a very significant Quake clan in the online gaming community, is celebrating their two year anniversary. Xenocide has played an active role in the Capture the Flag community since their conception. They offered resources for newbies and veterans. They were also one of the first clans that put a strong emphasis on fair play, respect, and decency. So by celebrating their 2nd birthday, the NetQuake and QuakeWorld CTF servers listed above have been selected to celebrate the event through the weekend (October 10th and 11th). The games at these servers will prove to be some of the best public Quake gaming on the interent. Those who participate will gain an excellent sense of what great Quake playing and sportsmanship is like.

Upon hearing about this event, I offered the Singe Clan - QuakeWorld CTF server to be a host for this event. Unfortunately they already had a sufficient number of QuakeWorld servers.... but they did ask if I could set up a NetQuake CTF instead. So I pulled a few strings, asked a few people and was finally able to make it happen. 'quake.slipgate.net port 2600' will be one of the NetQuake CTF servers participating in this event.

Singe Clan members will be online Saturday and Sunday night from 5:00 pm PST till the sun comes up over the mountains the next day. If some of you are having problems getting a game together, boot up IRC and swing by #singeclan on Gamesnet (west.gamesnet.net, east.gamesnet.net, ri.gamesnet.net, ny.gamesnet.net). We'll be around to get the gibs flowin' ....

Below is a list of rules that apply to the server and all who play on it. Failing to abide by these rules will cause bad Karma for the rest of your life. It is also likely that you will die in the near future by being struck by an asteroid.

  • No peeing in the water pools
  • No one may go by the alias "Bob Saget"
  • You must bow down and kiss the butt of all Singe members
  • You must feel guilty if you do not donate to the "Buy Singe a T-3" fundraiser
  • No sexual actions with the flagpoles are allowed... unless the action is exceptionally funny
  • You are not allowed to listen to Michael Bolton while playing at this server
  • Always keep your pants on - streaking tends to be more of a burden than a mutual enjoyment
  • Don't rocket jump. It often defeats the purpose of the grappling hook
  • When a Singe member enters the game, immediately compliment him on his good looks
  • Mop up the gibs in your base. Remember: a clean base is a defendable base

Despite the above, only one rule really applies: respect your fellow Quaker. Treat them as you wish to be treated. If conflicts arise, handle the situations maturely or leave the server. Keep the game fun and fair to yourself and everyone else you are playing with.

Any server problems should be reported to the Singe Clan here. If something is happening at the server that shouldn't be, make sure to let us know so we can fix it. Whether the problem be a server glitch or a regular jerk who ruins the game, drop us a line informing us what is going on.
